ICYMI: Policy Director Op-ed Published in Tulsa World

The Alliance for Secure Energy’s policy director, Jennifer Springer, authored an op-ed examining the contrasting regulatory frameworks governing Tulsa's water and electric utilities. Springer’s primary message is that predictable rate adjustments help protect consumers from severe cost spikes. She notes that while Tulsa’s water utility uses steady, planned annual increases, state statutes governing many of the state’s electric providers lead to contentious, protracted legal proceedings before the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

Springer advocates for adopting performance-based or gradual rate policies for electric utilities, similar to successful models used by Oklahoma natural gas companies and local water programs, to promote long-term reliability and mitigate rate shock. Read the op-ed for Jennifer’s full message.
